Peer-review polices

Aging and Disease (A&D, ISSN 2152-5250) is an open-access, online journal dedicated to the publication of original work in all areas of aging and age-related disease research. While A&D primarily focuses on original research articles, it also welcomes Reviews, Short Communications, Perspectives, Opinions, and Correspondence pieces. The journal aims to provide a platform for the rapid dissemination of novel discoveries from both basic and clinical studies in the field of aging and age-related diseases.

General Policy
All manuscripts must be submitted with the understanding that they have not been published elsewhere (except as an abstract, a published lecture, or part of a thesis) and are not under consideration by another journal. All submitted files, including figures, must be original. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all listed authors have contributed to, read, and approved the final manuscript.

Authors are encouraged to retain a copy of their submission in case of revision, rejection, loss, or damage. Manuscript receipt will be acknowledged, and a decision regarding acceptance will be made as promptly as possible. Accepted manuscripts may be subject to editorial revisions without prior notice.

Peer Review Policy
All manuscripts are subject to peer review and must meet rigorous academic standards. Authors are encouraged to suggest four potential peer reviewers, including full contact details (email addresses required). These should be qualified experts capable of providing an objective review. Authors may also request that one or two specific reviewers or laboratories be excluded due to conflicts of interest or other appropriate reasons—justification is required in such cases.

Final reviewer selection is at the discretion of the Editors-in-Chief or Editorial Board members and may or may not include the suggested reviewers.

Peer Review Process

Internal Peer Review Process
All submissions undergo initial editorial evaluation to determine whether the manuscript should be sent for external review or rejected without further consideration. This is typically done in consultation with the Editorial Advisory Board.

External Peer Review Process
Manuscripts selected for peer review are evaluated by at least two independent reviewers. Authors may suggest suitable reviewers and request exclusions, as noted above. All reviewers are required to maintain confidentiality and not share or redistribute the manuscript without permission. If a reviewer consults colleagues, confidentiality must still be preserved, and those individuals must be disclosed to the journal.

While we take measures to protect confidentiality, A&D cannot be held responsible for any breach by reviewers. Reviewers remain anonymous to authors and vice versa, unless otherwise agreed.

Reviewers are asked to submit their reports through our secure online system using the link provided in the editor’s email.

The Editor’s Decision
Once sufficient and substantive reviews are received, the assigned editor evaluates the manuscript, incorporating reviewer feedback and assessing the manuscript’s relevance, novelty, and value to A&D's readership. Final decisions are communicated only to the authors and reviewers.

Prompting of Publication
An author may inquire about the status of his or her manuscript at any time during the review and decision process. If you submit an article for the journal using our online submission system, you can track the status of your manuscript online.

A&D is committed to rapid editorial decisions and publication. We view an efficient review process as essential to serving both authors and the scientific community. Reviewers are therefore asked to respond promptly within the agreed timeframe. If delays are anticipated, we ask that reviewers notify us so alternative arrangements can be made.
